We’ve known for some time that Samsung has been at work on a flip-phone that runs on Android. Details of the handset, codenamed Hennessy, have been leaked. The smartphone will apparently be sold with the Galaxy Golden moniker.
Both the touchscreens on the Hennessy will be AMOLED displays and will measure 3.67-inches. They will both have resolutions of 800 x 480 pixels. The handset will run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and will be powered by a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 chip backed by 2GB of RAM, which should give it quite a smooth performance.
Strangely, details about the display seem to go against earlier reports , which stated that the handset will sport 3.5-inch displays with 480 x 320 pixel resolutions. Earlier reports also put the handset quite low when it comes to raw power, with only a 1.2GHz chip and 1GB of RAM. However, considering the fact that these are all rumours, we highly advise taking the information with a pinch of salt.
Bringing flip phones back in fashion?
Earlier reports state that the handset will also be getting updates to more recent verisons of Android. Also, the Hennessy smartphone will feature a closed housing that would cover the numeric keypad behind the full touch phone, which can be used once the enclosure is opened.
Interestingly, the report suggests that the smartphone will only be available in Luxury Gold colour. At the moment, though, there is no mention of the price.
It was in 2011 when Samsung had introduced another one of its dual-screen flip phones, the SCH-W999. This feature-rich handset ran Android 2.3 with Samsung’s TouchWiz and was powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor with an MSM8660 chipset. It featured dual 3.5-inch Super AMOLED displays and was unveiled in partnership with China Telecom. Apart from supporting GSM networks, it supported 3G through CDMA as well.
