Dell has announced the latest version of its premium laptop, the Dell XPS 13 at the ongoing CES 2018. The key highlight with the latest version is that according to the claims by Dell, it is “the smallest 13-inch laptop on the planet”.
It packs the ‘InfinityEdge’ display which allows Dell to pack a 13-inch display in the frame used to pack an 11-inch display. It will be available across the globe starting today with the base model priced at $999.99. The device will be available in three colours, White, Carbon Fiber, and Rose Gold.
The company claims that it has increased the portability of the laptop by making it thinner with just 2.7 pounds of weight which amounts to about 1.22 kg. It packs Intel’s latest eighth generation quad-core processor along with SSDs amounting up to 1 TB. Dell claims that with XPS 13, users should “expect the longest battery life of any 13-inch laptop, with almost 20 hours on FHD, up to 11” hours on the UHD model.
XPS 13 will come with a 4K UHD resolution screen with 100 percent sRGB colour gamut coverage in comparison to the QHD+ resolution. The company provided details about how it managed to make the form-factor more compact while ensuring that the performance of the laptop does not take a hit. It claims that it has improved the device performance by the factor of 2x.
Dell has added three biometric ways to authenticate the identity of a user ranging from the usual face recognition with Windows Hello, optional fingerprint reader in the power button and talking to the device from across the room so that Cortana can recognise your voice.
Dell is also offering an “Ubuntu-based developer edition” with Linux for a price of $949.99.
