The app boasts of features like free calling to other friends on Line, voice chat and stickers, in addition to instant messaging. The app is available for smartphones across multiple platforms like iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone and Nokia Asha. Line is also available on desktop operating systems like Windows and Mac.
Quite like WeChat, Line is also based out of Japan. It also incorporates some of the features like voice messaging and stickers Indians are familiar with thanks to WeChat. Line’s stickers include a range of its own original characters as well as some famous ones like Disney, Hello Kitty and even Iron Man. This feature, claims the company, is behind the app’s exponential growth in Asian countries.
The two-year-old application already boasts of 180 million registered users across 230 countries, according to the company. The marketing campaign in India has kicked off to highlight theStickers and voice messaging feature of the app.
“After witnessing solid growth in Asia, Europe and US, making inroad into the Indian market was a part of our overall strategy. With its huge youth population, increasing mobile and internet penetration, lowering bandwidth costs, India makes a hotbed for LINE messenger application which will change the way people communicate in the country,” said Akira Morikawa, CEO, LINE Corporation, elaborating on the India launch.
You can head on to Line’s website in Hindi and English to choose your device or operating system and download the application.
