Computex 2012: 5 upcoming Ultrabooks powered by Intel Ivy Bridge

After giving you a scoop of the upcoming Windows 8 tablets, we move towards yet another celebrated device category at the Computex 2012 - Ultrabooks. The tech event, this year sees Intel juggling between its tablets and Ultrabooks. The chip maker plans on an all new wave of devices for notebook users with its third generation of processors. The low voltage processors ensure enhanced performance and longer battery life in a sleek profile. Here are 5 upcoming Ivy Bridge based Ultrabooks that you can look forward to.

Toshiba Satellite U840W
Toshiba’s Satellite U840W won’t go unnoticed in the heap of upcoming Ultrabooks showcased at Computex, this year. This Ultrabook would turn heads with its looks that displays a 14.4-inch massive screen with 21:9 aspect ratio and 1792 x 768 resolution. So, obviously Toshiba is vying to give a larger than life experience to movie fans, and wants to harness Windows 8’s ability of split screen, alongside. It is known as U840Wx in the U.S. and will be known as the U840W in other regions. It’s an Ultrabook, so expect a sleek form factor (0.8-inch here), prolonged battery life, and it supports up to 10GB RAM. The U840W will go on sale in Q3 of 2012 starting at a price of $1,383 ( 76,000).

Acer Timeline M5
The Acer Timeline M5 is an upgrade to the M3, and puts aside the all-plastic-thin-metal build to emerge in a much sturdier and reliable form factor. It is available in 14-inch and 15-inch models, sporting a thin profile of 20mm, which manages to make room for an optical drive and backlit chicket keyboard. You get a hard disk drive for large file storage and SSD for instant-on capability, while the SSD-only option is also available. The battery life adheres to Ultrabook guidelines giving out up to 8 hours. This Ultrabook is expected to start shipping this month, but the pricing details are unclear.

Sony Vaio T13
Sony, known to craft sleek and stylish notebooks finally paved way for Ultrabooks. Sony Vaio T series, precisely the T13 model is being showcased at Computex this year. It may be slightly overweight, in comparison to other Ultrabooks available in the market and may give WiDi a miss, but the design is chic and the slight bulk has made room for a slew of ports - USB 3.0 and 2.0, HDMI, Ethernet, VGA and an SD slot, among other features. It’s nice to see how Sony has managed to offer this Ultrabook at $769.99 (approx  42,634).

LG X Note Z350
The Z350 Ivy Bridge-based LG X Note Ultrabook is a refreshed version of the Z330. The device has a 13.3-inch display, which it manages to squeeze into a smaller 12-inch form factor, something we find most of the manufacturers opting for. The system supports Intel WiDi for wirelessly streaming 1080p videos to compatible TVs and devices. The device looks good with a silver motif, but some detailed specs are still missing. Nevertheless, we still think the device could be one to look forward to. 

Fujitsu Lifebook U772
The next Ultrabook has been labeled as a business-class device, for on-the-go professionals. Running on third generation of Intel Core processors, the Fujitsu Lifebook U772 comes at a starting price of $1,149 (approx  63,638). This lightweight, frameless bezeled device has a 14-inch screen with 1,366 x 768 resolution that has been accommodated in a 13-inch chassis. The line-up of ports include full-sized HDMI output, two USB 3.0 ports and an SD card reader.

For the business-class…

Dell showcased its 14z Ultrabook (do not confuse it with the 14z laptop) at Computex, something we can look forward to as well. However, one can only know how efficiently these devices perform after they hit the markets for a comprehensive review.
