CES 2016: LG to showcase its 18-inch rollable curved OLED display

LG Electronics will be showing off an 18-inch display at CES which you can roll up like a newspaper. The flexible OLED panel has a HD class resolution of 1200 x 810 pixels. This display was first announced in 2014 . So far this design has only been a concept, but looks like LG is confident to show it off to the public now. The use cases for this kind of display can range from being a rollable tablet to a rollable newspaper. It could also be used in advertising and signages. LG plans to show off 65-inch and 77-inch UHD OLED TVs, featuring a High Dynamic Range (HDR) function with its perfect black and improved luminance. Also showcased at LG’s CES booth will be the world’s first 30R 18-inch rollable display that can be rolled-up like a newspaper; and a 55-inch design concept OLED TV display that is paper-thin. The paper thin displays do not include circuits. Then there are the flexible LCD displays at LG’s LCD Zone. LG will reveal “Art Slim” technology as well as a “Borderless” tech in the form of a 65-inch UHD TV that reduces power consumption by 35%. Also expected at the same booth according to LG, will be a the first 8K (7,680 X 4,320) 65-inch TV panel based on M+ technology. LG also announced a 25-inch curved LCD panel that is meant for use in cars interiors and a 10.3-inch “Advanced In-Cell Touch” LCD for drivers, who can use the same with their driving gloves on. How soon these rollable displays will make it to the consumer market is anyone’s guess as we have seen these concepts from other companies as well. But it is certainly something to look forward to at CES 2016.
