Audi has unveiled a smartwatch in partnership with electronics giant LG, which allows users to talk to their cars. As reported by Mashable, when Audi’s team took to the stage, no one expected the company to announce a wearable, but the reception to it was mostly positive. The smartwatch gives users the ability to unlock their cars, but no information was provided whether a user can control the vehicle’s engine, windows and temperature. Apart from this, it will run on NFC so luckily, even if the battery is dead, the user does not need to worry about being locked out of their car if the battery drains out. Android Central received a confirmation from LG that this is an LG watch made for Audi, running a variation of Android Wear. LG is working on a webOS based wearable, but this is unrelated. The wearable which comes with a leather strap appears to run on an Android Wear-like device with an Audi watch face and additional options accessed by swiping right. Audi called their device a kind of ‘mobile key’ but did not offer much information on it’s functions nor availability.
During CES 2015, Audi revealed a new smartwatch that lets users talk to their cars.
