CEO Tony Fadell meets Google to defend Nest: Report

Last week, we saw some mud-slinging between Nest CEO Tony Fadell and Dropcam founder Greg Duffy. In response to the ugly statements made by Fadell, Duffy explained how it was a ‘mistake’ selling to Nest. Now, a new report by Re/Code reveals that Fadell met Google to talk about the bad press around its revenue, work culture and defend Nest. According to the report, he said the recent article have been disheartening. “(I) don’t believe specifically — that those articles represent our culture, represent our work ethic, represent the respect we have for each other inside the team. And so it’s really — it really hurts us a lot when see those things,” he said. “A couple of things — I want to leave you with a couple of data points. You heard a little bit about our products in those ads — or in those articles. In those articles, being very blunt, we have shipped four all-new hardware products. WE have had our ten software releases. We’ve [launched] services and these kinds of things. We are moving very, very fast. Yes, we are breaking things along the way, but we are moving fast just like we need to be because it is a highly competitive market,” he further explained. Nest is a smart home device subsidiary under Alphabet. In March, there were reports about underperforming Nest and how its future is at risk. Later Fadell said that Dropcam that Nest acquired for $555 million was ‘not as good as’ expected. To this Duffy had said that it was “blatant scapegoating” and also insulting to the team.
