Celkon's new A119Q is just a quad-core, Android 4.2 version of the A119

It’s not even been two months since Celkon launched the A119, and the company already has plans to phase it out with a better version, the A119Q Signature HD. This upgraded version of the A119 comes with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean, and will hit stores next week for Rs 12,499.

However, this new offering is pretty much the same as the A119—everything from the dimensions, the battery and the cameras to the screen resolution is the same—except for the processor and the newer version of Jelly Bean. Its price tag is also similar: the A119 presently costs Rs 13,499, but a company representative told us that its price was going to be cut soon. However, the phone’s 12-megapixel rear and 3-megapixel front cameras and low price gives it a clear upper hand over phones with similar hardware, such as the Micromax Canvas HD.

The A119Q looks pretty similar to the A119 too

The A119Q comes with the standard quad-core SoC that can be found powering phones of Indian make in this price range, the MediaTek MT6589, which has a Cortex-A7 quad-core CPU running at 1.2GHz and the PowerVR SGX 554 GPU. However, the internal storage space and memory have not been upgraded, and the phone has the same amount of storage space and RAM as the A119—4GB and 1GB respectively.

However, the company seems to be doing a little bit of innovation on the software front. The A119Q will come with an app called Live 360 that lets you broadcast live videos over the Internet. A Celkon representative also said that the company is currently working on an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for the phone. They didn’t mention when the update could be expected, though.

The specs are basically the same, but here’s a look at them nonetheless:

  • 5-inch, WXGA capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels
  • 3G, GPRS, Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth v4.0
  • 12-megapixel camera with auto-focus, 3-megapixel front-facing camera
  • FM radio
  • microUSB 2.0
  • 4GB internal memory; microSD card slot for expansion up to 32GB

Some of his favorite topics to find mistakes in are games and open source stuff like Linux, but he also maintains a fleeting interest in smartphones. He also loves Michael Jackson's Heal the World the same way a little girl loves cockroaches. see more
