Celebrate this Diwali with a custom Twitter emoji

Paying homage to the festival of lights, Twitter India has unveiled a #HappyDiwali emoji for all your Diwali tweeting needs.

Adding some flair to the emoji is the fact that you can participate in a Twitter poll where you pick a colour (you get to choose from orange, blue, green and pink colour options) that you think would be ideal for the Diwali emoji. Twitter India says that the voting will be open for 48 hours, starting 25 October. The winning colour will grace the emoji when it launches on 28 October.

“Twitter is the live connection to culture for Indians across the globe to express their joys, converse about their festive experiences and bask in the beauty of Diwali real time. In a unique first, we are crowdsourcing an emoji for #HappyDiwali in order to bring people closer, create shared experiences and celebrate together the triumph of good over evil. The lamp in the emoji symbolises optimism, prosperity and courage. It also stands for the elimination of ignorance through the quest for knowledge”, said Keya Madhvani, Head of Lifestyle and Culture Partnerships, Twitter India. Twitter has been using custom emojis for more than a year now and initially limited the emojis to almost Google doodle-esque events. They’re now more widespread. Speaking of Twitter, do follow us  @tech2eets if you’re up for live updates on all things tech. Till then, #HappyDiwali!
