One of the biggest mysteries with the next-gen consoles has been Capcom’s PlayStation 4-exclusive title, deep down. Months after unveiling the game with a rather vague video, the company has finally released new trailer for the game that does a better job of showing us what kind of narrative it’ll use, along with some snippets of gameplay here and there. Check out the trailer:
The trailer was released at a recent Sony conference in Japan where Capcom also showed a brief demo of the game. According to the company, deep down will have randomly-generated levels, and if the gameplay demo is anything to go by, it’ll be quite similar to From Software’s hit RPG Dark Souls. Capcom has also announced that it will be an online game where players will be able to bump into other players as they quest on their own.
Going by the trailer, the game seems to employ a similar narrative to that of Ubisoft’s ever-popular Assassin’s Creed series. There seems to be a sci-fi setting as well as the more typical medieval fantasy setting where most of the hack-and-slash gameplay will take place.
deep down seems to be a combination of Assassin’s Creed and Dark Souls
Capcom has described deep down as a “memory-reading RPG” which lets players “read” the history of the game’s world from objects around them. The gameplay also seems to be heavily inspired from one of Capcom’s earlier titles—Dragon’s Dogma—which was lauded for its gameplay which revolved around climbing giant monsters and killing them.
More information on deep down will be available at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show where Capcom will have a playable demo available for the public.
