It’s been 25 years since the fighting game genre was more-or-less codified by Street Figther, and to commemorate the occasion, Capcom teamed up with gaming video group Area 5 to make a documentary. It’s titled I Am Street Fighter - 25th Anniversary Documentary, and you can check it out here:

The documentary is essentially a love letter to all things Street Fighter. It goes in-depth into the history of the franchise and even has fans of the games, such as Clarence Lim, collector and cosplayer, talk about their childhood experiences with Street Fighter 2. The documentary covers fans and developers from all sides of Street Fighter, including art designers who were responsible for Street Fighter 2 HD Remix as well as the original sound director for Street Fighter 2.

Over the years, there have been quite a large number of mainline Street Fighter games. The number goes even higher when you start counting the Vs and X games, such as SNK vs Capcom, Marvel vs Capcom or Street Fighter X Tekken.

Has it been 25 years already?

These days, it isn’t just the cosplayers and collectors who keep the game alive. Developer Capcom has been pretty proactive in keeping the franchise alive. The most recent mainline game in the franchise has been Super Street Fighter 4, and in 2014, we’ll get to see Ultra Street Fighter 4.

The franchise has also had quite an active pro gaming scene. Recently, the biggest fighting tournament of the year concluded, with the main event being dominated by Street Fighter 4.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
