Canon announced the Canon EOS 80D today. As the name suggests, the camera is supposed to be a step up from its predecessor, the 70D. Also announced were a new EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens and a new accessory called the Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E1. Canon EOS 80D The 80D features Canon’s Dual Pixel AF (Auto Focus), 45 point AF system ( cross-type sensors ), a DIGIC 6 processor, a 24.2MP CMOS sensor, 7fps continuous shooting and supports ISOs up to 16,000. The camera is also supposed to be water and dust resistant, like the 70D before it and DPReview reports that stereo mic separation is wider. The LCD is a 3-inch, 1.04 million dot, vari-angle LCD and you also get a 3.5mm headphone jack. The device is also said to support NFC and WiFi and video recording at 1080p@60fps. EF-S 18-135mm IS USM lens EF-S 18-135 The EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM is, on paper, the same as the EF-S 18-135mm IS USM lens before it. The difference here is that the new lens uses Canon’s newly developed Nano USM focus motors that ensure smoother and quieter operation than the regular USM motors. Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E1 This one is a little hard to describe, so we’ll just let the video do the talking. It certainly looks interesting.

The 80D, lens and adapter, all seem to be geared towards providing a better video recording experience. These devices coupled with the companion app should make for a very interesting set of tools in any photographer’s arsenal.
