Love it or hate it but there’s no denying the fact that Call of Duty has now become a cultural phenomenon. Last year’s Black Ops shattered entertainment records by making nearly $360 million on launch day itself and this year’s Modern Warfare 3 has outdone its predecessor. According to Eurogamer, Modern Warfare 3 has sold nearly 6.5 million copies making roughly $400 million in sales on day one itself in just Europe and UK. Add in the rest of the world and the figure would be even more impressive. Just so you understand how mind numbing these figures are, Battlefield 3 sold roughly 5 million copies worldwide after an entire week.

How does this make Activision feel? Extremely happy of course and here’s what its head of publishing, Eric Hirschberg had to say, “Call of Duty is more than a game. It's become a major part of the pop cultural landscape. It is a game that core enthusiasts love, but that also consistently draws new people into the medium. It is the most intense, adrenaline pumping entertainment experience anywhere.”
