Cable TV subscribers in Mumbai must submit their CAFs before Aug 2

Cable TV subscribers in Mumbai, Kolkata, and across 38 other cities in India that come under the second phase of DAS implementation, have now been assigned deadlines for the submission of their consumer application forms (CAFs).

In a meeting convened by the Telecom Regulatory of Authority of India last week, it was decided that subscribers in Mumbai have time until August 2, 2013 to submit their completely filled CAFs, while those in Kolkata have time until August 23, 2013. Subscribers across the 38 other cities will have to submit their duly filled CAFs to their MSOs by September 20, 2013.

The consumer application forms that subscribers ought to submit before their respective deadlines must be complete in all respects including a mention of their choice of channels or services and their details in the subscriber management system.

It is essential that customers submit their duly filled CAFs to their MSOs before their deadline expires, since the latter can transmit digital signals and activate their set-top boxes only after they’ve received the CAFs. “If there are no such details, the MSOs are obliged under law not to transmit the signal and deactivate the cable TV services,” states the press release issued by TRAI.

Consumer application forms include details like the name of the subscriber, their residential address, set-top box number, customer account number, et al. The details cable TV subscribers like you and I submit via these forms are then entered into the MSO’s subscriber management system (SMS). These details prove useful when the government has to ascertain the number of DAS subscribers in the country. Customers can avail these forms from their local cable operators and submit it to them once they are duly filled. In case of any doubts regarding the details in the form, customers can contact their operators on their helpline numbers.

In an attempt to get subscribers to understand the importance of submitting these details on time, multi-system operators, at the behest of TRAI, began carrying out blackouts for brief moments.
