LG has stopped manufacturing the Nexus 5, which means if you intend to buy any of Google’s Nexus phones, the Nexus 6 will be your only choice.

Google is reportedly discontinuing the Nexus 5 in favour of the Nexus 6, which has a massive 5.9-inch display. The 5-inch smartphone that was launched last year had features that were the best in its class and at a competitive asking price of Rs 24,900 for the 16GB version. The Nexus series offers a pure Android experience without any unnecessary bloatware.

Google has confirmed to TechRadar that it has stopped manufacturing the Nexus 5 and that “once they are gone, they’re gone, so we’d suggest people get them while they can”. Meanwhile another report on The Verge contradicts the TechRadar story with a company spokesperson saying that “Nexus 5 will continue to be available for sale on Google Play and through select retailers in Q1 2015.”

While Google might be saying that the Nexus 5 is available for sale till 2015, the smartphone is going out of stock fast. The Google Play product page for the Nexus 5 no longer shows the red or white versions, while the black version is out of stock.

Once the Nexus 5 stock runs out, which could happen soon if production doesn’t continue, the Nexus 6 will be your only choice. As far as the new Motorola-made Nexus 6  goes it has has a 2.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset with Adreno 420 GPU, backed by 3GB of Ram. The phone is fuelled by a 3220 mAh battery, which Google claims provides up to 24 hours of battery life. It comes with the latest Android operating system, Lollipop, which is an added reason to upgrade from the Nexus 5.

But there’s one caveat - it features a 5.9-inch display, which makes it larger than an average smartphone. Despite the features, the sheer size of the Nexus 6 will be a deal-breaker for most people , as it makes it difficult to use one handed especially if you have small hands. Those looking for a pure Android experience in a more pocket-friendly smartphone, will be forced to look at other options including the second generation Moto X and Moto G - bypassing the Google Nexus series.
