BSNL introduces 'Choose your mobile number' in AP circle

Beginning from today, Bhartiya Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will allow users in its AP telecom circle to choose the mobile number of their choice. Called ‘Choose your mobile number’, this scheme exclusively for BSNL users in AP has been flagged off today. According to a report in the Business Standard, users can now avail and secure for themselves the mobile number(s) of their choice from a list of over 100,000 different mobile numbers, at no extra costs. Users can find the list of mobile numbers on BSNL’s official website - www.ap.bsnl.co.in.

Any particular user can secure not more than two mobile numbers from the list. The report further adds that once the user makes his selection, he will receive a PIN number on his mobile phone. The selected number, according to the report will be secured for the next 48 hours during which it wouldn’t appear among the 100,000 mobile numbers up for selection. Armed with the PIN number(s) for the selected number(s), users can approach their nearest retailer or a customer service centre, where he will then receive the same number.

It is further learnt that BSNL will constantly update this list to ensure that despite numbers being reserved at a steady pace, 100,000 numbers are available on the list for the customers to choose from.

What do you think about this new scheme rolled out by BSNL? Do you think this scheme should be uniformly rolled out?
