Blizzard has been quiet about its own take on the MOBA genre, which has so far been referred to as Blizzard All-Stars. The company has now released a video announcing that the work-in-progress game’s name has been changed to Heroes of the Storm. Check out the video:

The animation style has aimed more for the “cute” than the “badass” side of the spectrum. An orc from Warcraft comes into the scene and nails a sign on the ground which says “Blizzard Dota”. StarCraft’s Jim Raynor enters the scene by shooting the sign, turning its text into “Blizzard All-Stars”. The Demon Hunter form Diablo 3 jumps in and kicks off a Mexican stand off between the three, when suddenly, lightning strikes, revealing the game’s new name.

Blizzard’s MOBA game has been in development from quite some time now, and the company hasn’t revealed any details other than its name and the fact that it will have characters from the Diablo, Warcraft and StarCraft mythos as playable heroes.

The new name has the same abbreviation as StarCraft 2’s most recent expansion pack

Originally, Blizzard’s MOBA was announced as a map for StarCraft 2 to show off the game’s modding capabilities. However, the idea was later dropped in favour of a standalone game, especially after the success seen by Valve’s Dota 2 and Riot’s League of Legends.

Blizzard’s boss Mike Morhaime revealed in August this year that the game had reached a significant internal testing milestone and that it was going into wider internal testing. He has said that Blizzard was looking to put its own spin on the MOBA genre, while challenging some existing design paradigms.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns.
