Worries dont seem to end for RIM. After the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) security error, RIM has just disclosed flaws in the BlackBerry OS 6 and also BES for IBM Lotus and Microsoft Exchange, reports PC World . The vulnerability in BlackBerry 6 Webkit browser enables the hacker to not only access the user’s internal/external memory on a smartphone running BlackBerry 6 but also modify it.

A statement issued by RIM reveals that the hacker can’t access data from the device owner’s email, calendar and contacts from application storage. This security issue could affect a list of BlackBerry 6 OS-based smartphones including Bold 9650, Bold 9700, Bold 9780, Curve 9300, Pearl 9100 and more.

To tackle this issue, RIM suggests some OS upgrades. The Blackberry Bold 9650, Curve 9330 and Style 9670 smartphones can be updated to v6.0.0.522 while others to v6.0.0.566. In case your carrier has not released the software builds, they can be requested for suitable alternate software, says RIM.

In order to tackle the BES for IBM Lotus and Microsoft Exchange glitch (affecting firms using Microsoft’s OCS 2007 R2 and Lync server 2010 BlackBerry IM client), RIM recommends using the newly issued security updates – BES 5.0.3 maintenance release 4 software. These updates are available for download from RIM’s server download page.
