After bringing Pinterest images and Klout snapshots to search, Microsoft has fit Bing Search with music video search which will draw in results from YouTube and Vimeo amongst other video hosting websites.
In a blog post announcing the new feature, Ryan Becker and Deepak Santhanam, from Bing’s Multimedia Team, said that the feature had been built from the ground up to make it easier for users to access the best of the videos available. Bing’s machine learning capabilities ensure you get the most relevant and popular videos in the results, when you search for a song or an artist. Results will be made available from “leading sites” like YouTube, Vimeo, MTV, Artist Direct and more.
Results from multiple video-hosting websites
The best bit about this change is that instead of having to click through a link to see if you have the right song, rolling the cursor over the thumbnail will show you a mini preview. If this is the song you’re looking for you can simply click and hear it in its entirety.
Relevant results
Microsoft wants to not just push out popular videos, but also help users discover older music and upcoming musicians. When you search for a particular kind of music, you will find popular videos being showed on the top left and relevant ones on the right. The company also wants to boost the “lost art” of albums. For example, if you’re searching for Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, the music videos will now be listed in the same order they appeared on in the album. Bing will even show you related albums, like live versions, others by the same band and even related artists. Changing your search engine already?
