Benedict Cumberbatch's dramatic reading of R Kelly lyrics is pure genius

Yes, we’re all fans of Benedict Cumberbatch out here. He’s not only a great actor but also has a brilliant voice that is bursting with baritone. So when he appears on the very funny Jimmy Kimmel Live to do a reading of an R. Kelly track, you know you have a viral video on your hands.

For those of you who missed the R&B wave in the early 2000s, R Kelly is a songwriter and producer who is not exactly known for his lyrics. So, when he decided to release his next album, creatively titled “Black Panties”, Kimmel brought on Cumberbatch for some fun. Have a look:

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

The Sherlock star came on board to recite lyrics from Kelly’s new single titled Genius. And genius it was. Cumberbatch, in his low, almost drawling voice read out the sexually charged lyrics like he would recite a poem. The overall effect of the video is, well, very British. Cumberbatch infuses some silly sexiness and a whole load of funny into Genius as he reads off a booklet in low light.

Reciting “Body’s so freakin’ soft. I can’t wait to turn you on. You got me la la la la, baby,” with panache, Cumberbatch shows off his funny side on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Kimmel himself has been the reigning king of viral videos this year with some of his segments hitting the right notes with audiences on social networking websites.

Kimmel had earlier released half a video showing a woman catch fire after a freak accident while trying to twerk like Miley Cyrus. It turned out to be a fake stunt with Kimmel himself coming in midway through the extended video. Not to be outdone, he sent out his team soon after that tried to convince people that the iPad mini was in fact the iPhone 5s . The results, of course, were hilarious with people singing praises of the device, knowing little that it had not even launched back then.

But for now, the spotlight is shared equally by Cumberbatch and his baritone. Women will agree that Kimmel should make the Star Trek actor a regular on his show.

Intrigued by all things social, Nishtha will invariably tweet about you. When not tweeting or writing about the next viral video, you will hear her proclaiming her love to Metallica, James Hetfield, Opeth, Akerfeldt and all bands that go 'growl'. She also obsesses about ACP Pradyuman and South Park and you will always find her moving around with a book. Her focus is on all the happening stuff in the tech domain, and she won't hesitate to take a shot at some of the oddball devices that make their way to our labs.
