Belkin expands its WeMo portfolio with sensors for connected homes

Taking a leap into connected homes, Belkin has expanded its WeMo sensor lineup with new sensors. The company adds four new sensors to its already large line of ‘Internet of Things’ devices that lets users control plugged in items, lights, crock pot and so on. If you look at the new sensors, they are more to do with security. And why not, after all, most companies are now gearing towards connected homes. However, what sets Belkin apart is the lack of subscription fees. Basically, its plug-and-play and directly connects with your smartphone. The door and window sensor alerts users when a door or a window opens. Every door or window with the sensor will send out alerts each time the door opens and alert you if the window is kept open. The Keychain sensor serves as a digital tracking device that alerts users when a person enters or leaves your home. It could come handy for parents who want to keep a tab on their kids. The WeMo alarm sensor monitors your current fire and carbon monoxide alarms. The WeMo Room motion sensor monitors human movements and is capable of ignoring pets. It is believed to come with a 30 foot range, 90 degree field of view and also serves as a trigger for other devices. These Belkin devices will be made available in the second half of 2015, though there is no word on the pricing yet. However, WeMo promises to provide affordable, bite-size sensors that are portable as well as adjustable.
