News reports say that Beats had built a Wi-Fi-connected speaker system to take on Sonos’ product line, but later killed the product after being **acquired by Apple** . According to Variety, Beats was in the process of developing of a Sonos-like Wi-Fi speakers, but ultimately scrapped the product after being acquired by Apple. Soon after the acquisition, the company stopped working on the connected speakers. The report further adds that some of the engineers working on the speaker project were moved to other teams, while some others left the company. Beats had earlier planned to launch the speakers during the 2014 holiday season. Beats offers Bluetooth-based speakers, but the new line was said to blend together Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC. The company reportedly planned a large speaker priced at $750 (approximately Rs 48,000), along with several other smaller speakers. Beats were planning to build speakers that would feature ‘Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC and allow users to play the same music synchronously throughout the house’ and also ‘connect to streaming services like Spotify and **Apple Music** ’. The company wanted to build the product from scratch without teaming up any company, adds the report. Finally, Apple killed the product due to several issues in the ‘developmental process, switching parts and delaying dates’. Apple acquired Beats last year for $3 billion. At the WWDC lately, the company announced its new music streaming service called Apple Music. the company also announced Beats 1 radio service associated with Apple Music. It will start off with three 24/7 radio stations which will be broadcast globally from locations such as New York, London and Los Angeles.
