If you wanted to ping a friend complaining about another one on Google chat or hangout, don’t. Because those messages are going everywhere!
Yes, Google chat/hangouts currently has a massive problem on its hands. According to user reports, chats being sent to one recipient are ending up in other people’s chat windows.
The product forum of Google Chat is flooded with complaints from users who are pointing out the error, which are also being reported from India.
Check out this complaint by a user named Jeff Tsao, who wrote on Google Chat forum saying,
_I was chatting with contact A when suddenly contact B pops up with a message asking me about things I was saying to A. Upon searching my chat history with B, I see my messages to A there, one-sided so it was out of context for B. This was obviously quite shocking, so I told contact C about the issue. I suspected an issue with Hangouts in Google+, which I don’t use often but have an account for, and upon opening Hangouts history with A, I see my messages to C there.

Another user Sachin Sable wrote on the forum,
This just happened to me also..
1) Sent message to A from google talk
2) Message is received by A.
3) But user B, C , D on hangout attached to Gmail responding to that message..
Very much annoying…
Google’s seems to be aware of the problem and according to TechCrunch, a Google spokesperson said."We’re investigating reports of an issue with Google Talk. We’re sorry for the inconvenience. For further updates please refer to the Apps Status Dashboard."
The App Status Dashboard is also showing the same message and says service disruption.
The bug has left many users angry who are feeling that this is a privacy violation. For some, it resulted in embarrassing chat mix-ups.
The complaints list is growing on the forum. Hopefully Google will fix the issue soon.
