Promotional art for the upcoming Battlefield 4, which was filmed by YouTuber “luger700”, has revealed that the game will mark the return of the much-beloved Commander Mode. It has also revealed that the multiplayer component of the game will have three playable factions.
The promotion art also reveals that pre-ordering the game will give you a discount of $10 on the first expansion that will undoubtedly be released shortly after the game’s launch. Check out the video that shows the promotion art:
The last game in the Battlefield series to have Commander Mode was Battlfield 2142, which was released in 2006. The mode gives a top-down view of the battlefield from which some players could direct others by placing markers for things like artillery strikes or UAV drones.
Battlefield 4 was announced back in March. Before that, the website for the game was up to tease about the game’s announcement. The website had what appeared to be a rain-covered glass window, and you could move your mouse around to get a glimpse at what’s on the other side of the window for a couple of seconds before it fogs up again.
The image behind the “glass window” appeared to be almost the same as the promo art that was leaked a few days ago, with the only difference being the lack of a guy running towards you. The tanks were the same as the one from the promo art.
Battlefield 4 will mark the return of Commander Mode
Where Battlefield 3 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 focused on highly-destructible environments, Battlefield 4 might have a dynamic weather system. This is strongly hinted by the promo art and the “rainy” website. It will be interesting to see whether a weather system would have any bearing on gameplay like the destructible environments, or if it will simply be window dressing.
The promo art for Battlefield 4 was leaked earlier in March. Of course, going by the picture, EA doesn’t seem to be breaking any new ground here. The game will still probably be the same modern military shooter with an emphasis on large maps and vehicles in multiplayer.
DICE General Manager Karl Magnus Troedsson revealed in August last year that Battlefield 4 will stay in the modern era setting. “There’s a lot of things inspiring us as to how the franchise will move on. Everything from fans’ feedback, to market research and, of course, what we want to build ourselves. It’s not just one single thing,” said Troedsson. “And, yes, I know Battlefield 4 is probably the most creative name we ever could come up with. I can’t comment any more on that game because it’s all secret,” he added in a funny side note.
