BabyChakra: A childcare app to simplify life for new parents

For the new mother who does not know what to do about the bump on her child’s head and has no one to turn to for help, an app could be the solution. BabyChakra, a platform for young parents is aimed at this growing section of the tech savvy populace.

The company has launched an Android app, which is personalised by life stage and locality for users in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Covering expecting as well as young parents with children aged 0-5 years, the app will enable parents take better decisions by connecting them with other young parents, experts, and through thousands of reviews on childcare services. The APP currently features over 10,000 local services and serves 2.5 lakh mothers monthly.

The company is developing an iOS app which should be out soon.

Tech connect other parents

New parents can gain the advantage of interacting with over five lakh parents across cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore to address their queries. In eight months from its Beta launch, the portal profiles over 7,000 local services and has more than 30,000 registered users.

While creating a close-knit network of moms, BabyChakra also facilitates information sharing by selected and vetted influential mothers   or “MomStars”, who update others on the site on what is happening in their locality and write candid reviews on local services.

All that a parent has to do is download the app and directly search on it for information with regard to babies and their development. The platform also has an expert panel of the top gynecologists, pediatricians, nutritionists, lactation experts, speech therapist, midwifes in the country. The platform helps answer questions by members of its community by these experts.

Social discovery search engine

Talking about the APP launch, Nayya Saggi, CEO, BabyChakra said, “We are like a social discovery search engine. We want to be the parenting app any parent will need for issues that confront them with regard to their children. What we are trying to establish is a network of trusted people and help them discuss services and products. We are excited to already be among the top new free apps on Google Playstore and mentioned among the Top Brilliant Apps for Childcare by Yahoo news. ”

“Our APP is the first parenting app in India that personalizes by life-stage, location and searches by the user. We are also not just search based, but are also building intelligence to recommend services and content to mothers based on what mothers like them are reading and bookmarking. We have incorporated special features such as Open Now to filter by services that can cater to mothers during an emergency in the middle of the night,” said Mohit Kumar, Chief Product Officer, BabyChakra said.

Expansion plans

BabyChakra intends to expand its footprint to eight cities by the end of 2016. Over the next two years, it aims to reach out to 60 percent of the 40 million Indian mom demographic.
