Avail MTNL broadband, landline and mobile services through an SMS

Those looking to get themselves an MTNL mobile, landline or broadband connection can now do so by sending an SMS, reports confirm. The state-run operator, Mahanager Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) is looking at bringing its aforementioned services at the doorstep of their consumers, in what they call a one of its kind service in the country. It is being facilitated as a single window service offered to consumers, wherein they would be required to send an SMS to MTNL at 9868552121 from any mobile connection, informing MTNL of their requirements or do so, online. Reports quote MTNL’s Executive Director A K Bhargava as saying,“Anyone having mobile connection of any operator can send an SMS to 9868552121 and get a new landline, broadband or mobile connection of MTNL. This long code is accessible round- the-clock and even on holidays.”

Adding further, reports inform that those availing of the service, i.e. sending an SMS will be charged as per their normal SMS rate. However, MTNL dolphin customers can access the service using a short code 52121, which is toll-free for them. Explaining the process, as to how the service finally reaches a consumer, Bhargava explained that once the customer approaches them, either by way of an SMS or using the online medium, details are forwarded to their sales team. The sales team then, using their retail network deliver the service to the end consumer.

For its users in Mumbai, MTNL, reportedly has started booking of broadband connections through a toll-free number. Interestingly, to also cater to that segment of customers who want to move to MTNL’s network using MNP, it has introduced a toll-free number - 1800111503. MTNL currently offers its services across Mumbai and Delhi.

MTNL, along with BSNL was in the news recently, when reports of a pact with IAF surfaced. Reports at the time confirmed that both the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has come together, in a pact with the Indian Air Force (IAF). The pact would require both BSNL and MTNL to provide a host of services at concessional rates to the IAF, in exchange for space for installation of towers and equipment of both MTNL and BSNL, with which the IAF would comply. Recently, MTNL introduced what it calls the nation’s first SMS-based Missed call alert facility for subscribers to their landline services in the Mumbai telecom circle.

We tried sending an SMS across to MTNL at their aforementioned number and received a quick response thanking us for using their service. However, do let us know if you plan to use this service to get your broadband, landline or mobile connection in the comments section below.
