Indie studio Pixel Heart has made an interesting game for iOS devices.  Vanished, is currently free as part of its launch promotion until October 1, but what’s interesting about it is that it will be an audio-only game. While Vanished is very much a survival horror game, it aims to scare gamers by only using sound, rather than brutal graphics or survival-based gameplay.

In the audio-only horror game, players will find themselves in a world without light, with no memories of how they got there and and no clues on why everything has disappeared. Players are haunted by strange memories and surrounded by dark presences.

According to Pixel Heart, the idea for the game came from an experiment using the hardware of the iPhone. The developers got a good idea of the typical movements of people in the real world by using the built-in compass and accelerometer. In the game, players just face the direction they want to go and touch the screen to walk. To attack with weapons, players have to simply shake the device.

To give you an idea of what to expect, the developers use a quote of classic horror writer HP Lovecraft: “The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.”

Despite having released it on the App Store , the developers still believe that Vanished is an experiment. Upcoming improvements include making the game more complex and deeper without changing the core gameplay.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
