The New Year has barely started… and the leaks have started. Newly created enthusiast site, Level505 has published comprehensive benchmarks and specifications of ATI’s upcoming GPU — the R600.
The initial reading of the benchmarks shows an incredible leap in the performance, from the previous generation of ATI Radeon 1950XTX. The performance leap pushes the upcoming chip, beyond the levels of G80 Nvidia’s recently introduced chip by as much as 8 to 40 percent.
Some of the notable changes that have taken place is the introduction of Unified shaders, similar to Nvidia’s products, introduction of both GDDR3 and GDDR4 variants operating at 900 MHz and 1.1 GHz respectively memory clocks, a bump up in memory bandwidth from 115 GB/s to over 140 GB/s on GDDR4 based models.
