At 5.75 mm thin, Vivo X3 is easily the world's slimmest smartphone

The title of the world’s slimmest smartphone was, up until recently, held by the Huawei Ascend P6. The slim smartphone measures just 6.16mm thick. That title has now changed hands, this time going to the Vivo X3.

The title definitely seems well deserved, as the device measures a slender 5.75 mm. The thickness is uniform as well, with no bumps or protrusions for the battery or the camera lens. To put the thickness of the phone in perspective, it should be noted that Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S4 measures 7.9mm in thickness, while the HTC One comes in at 9.3 mm.

While the phone sounds interesting, many people may be drawing a blank at the name Vivo. The Chinese smartphone brand is owned by BBK Electronics, which also owns one of the bigger Chinese smartphone makers, Oppo. Oppo was in the news lately with its upcoming N1 camera-centric phone being announced for next month.

The Vivo X3 has now claimed the title of the world’s slimmest smartphone

If users think that the tiny chassis doesn’t come with space enough for great specifications, they may be in for a surprise. The smartphone will come with a 5-inch display sporting a resolution ratio of 1280x720 pixels. Internally, the smartphone is pegged to come with a quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz. The smartphone will run Android 4.2 out-of-the-box and features an 8-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel front shooter. There’s even space for a 2000mAh battery. Surprisingly, the super-slim Vivo X3 comes in blue only, while you can also pick the white model which is still impressively slim at 5.95 mm.

According to the Digital Trends, the smartphone will go up on sale next month, where it will cost the equivalent of $410 (Rs 26,400 approx). While the Vivo X3 sounds like an intriguing phone, it should not be forgotten that the title of the world’s slimmest smartphone has long been a coveted one. As manufacturing technology advances, the question is how much slimmer can smartphones go?
