It’s a laptop with a small screen on the top of the lid, like some clamshell mobile phones that have a small screen on the outside. This idea is conceptualized by Intel and was first put forward way back in 2003. Intel calls it ‘Newport’.

The system is developed by PortalPlayer and is featured in Windows Vista as ‘Windows Sideshow’. Basically the idea behind this is that even though your main screen is shut, your laptop is always on and you are always connected. It requires very minimal battery power and can last for hundreds of hours.
