This hybrid device matches up to all the leaks that had spilled in the past. Now we can see the PadFone 2 in all its fine glory. The PadFone 2 is a lot slimmer than the original PadFone, which has been recently launched in India. The design of this hybrid device is one of its highlighted features of the PadFone 2 but the good news does not stop there as ASUS has thrown in a bunch of interesting features that can surely rival the best in the business.

The PadFone 2 features a speedy 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 with 2GB of RAM. As far as software is concerned, the ASUS PadFone 2 will be shipped with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich but the brand states that the Jelly Bean update will arrive on it soon after launch.

Here is a quick look at the highlighted features of the ASUS PadFone 2:

  • 4.7-inch 720p Super IPS+ panel with up to 550nits brightness
  • LTE, 3G, GPRS, NFC, Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth 4.0 with USB 2.0 Host
  • 13MP f/2.4 BSI sensor with full HD video recording at 30fps, 1.2MP front camera
  • 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions
  • MHL for AV out

The IPS+ display of the PadFone2 is manufactured by Sharp. The Backside illuminated sensor found on the camera is made by Sony; so we can expect it to be similar to that found on the Xperia T.

As per a report by Engadget“The aforementioned camera isn't just about the megapixels, as it also supports 1080p at 30fps, 720p at 60fps and up to 100 continuous shots at full resolution! Also thrown into the package are 2GB of RAM, Corning Fit Glass (as used on the Nexus 7 to save weight), NFC, 2,140mAh fixed battery, 50GB of ASUS WebStorage for two years (which we assume is the company's way of justifying the lack of microSD expansion), and WCDMA 900/2,100MHz plus LTE 800/1,800/2,600MHz radios for the global model.”

The PadFone 2 will use a micro-SIM card instead of a regular-sized SIM. This is apparent from the size of the handset, and the fact that it is fitted with many interesting features.

The PadFone 2 tablet features a 10.1-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1,280 x 800 on the PadFone Station. The 6,600mAh battery's of the PadFone has been trimmed down to 5,000mAh in its sequel. Due to the battery, the PadFone 2 now weighs 649 grams with the smartphone slotted in the docking station.

The other major difference found here between the Padfone2 and its predecessor is that it now features a 13-pin connector as opposed to the 40-pin connector used with the PadFone 2.

The PadFone 2 is expected to go on sale next week in Taiwan, and will be launched before the year ends in Asia and Europe. There is no confirmation yet on its pricing. However, the 32GB model may be sold for €799, while the 64GB version may cost €899.
