Taiwanese computer hardware and smartphone maker Asus has launched the ‘Asus Tinker Board’ in the Indian market. The company has priced the board for Rs 4,750 and it has not revealed the availability details. ‘Tinker Board’ is a ‘single-board computer’ (SBC) that can be used as a core system to create other systems like IoT device for connected home, entertainment system, DIY robot project or other things.
The interesting thing to note here is that anyone with a hobby can use the product to make their own custom system. The company revealed that anyone from hobbyists, electronic DIY enthusiasts to educators can use this to make ‘low-cost,great-performing computers’.
Moving to the design of the SBC, the ‘Tinker Board’ boasts an enhanced DIY design that is compatible with a large range of SBC accessories and chassis. This has resulted in an almost; credit card-sized’ computer with ‘class-leading performance’ in addition to IoT connectivity and a robust support for multimedia content.
Asus has packed a quad-core Rockchip RK3288 System-on-Chip (SoC) clocked at 1.8 GHz along with Mali-T764 GPU that supports HD and UHD playback and H.264 and H.265 decoding on the SBC. It comes with a 2 GB dual-channel LPDDR3 RAM along with MicroSD slot with SD3.0 support.
The company has added 1GB Ethernet port along with four USB2.0 ports, one HDMI 1.4 out port and one 3.5-mm headphone jack. The board also comes with one 40-pin GPIO interface header, one 15-pin MIPI DSI, one 15-pin contact point for PWM and S/PDIF signals. Asus has also added a Bluetooth 4.0 along with EDR and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. The SBC will be powered by a 5V/2A AC adapter through a micro-USB port. Last but not the least, the entire system will be powered by Asus TinkerOS which is Debian-based Linux fork along with support for Android.
