Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag gets new trailer that showcases the open world

Ubisoft has released a massive new 13-minute video for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. This time, Ubisoft’s Ashraf Ismail explains the open world of the game, along with some side quests. Check it out:

The first thing to note is just how massive the world is. Hopefully, sailing around the Caribbean and Cuba will be more interesting than the massive amounts of sailing in the classic Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. This is pointed out by Ismail to be Ubisoft’s general philosophy with naval exploration—something or the other must pop up every minute to keep players entertained. For example, Edward can find a random island where he finds a treasure map.

The video shows the gameplay switching quite seamlessly from the typical pirate-fishing village to the naval exploration and combat mode. It also shows how important the action of boarding enemy ships is, rather than just sinking them.

The video also shows off the game’s dynamic weather system, where storms feel organic and can either completely destroy your ship, or be used to your advantage by drawing enemies in to weaken them.

Stealthing against a ship

The concept of the frontier from Assassin’s Creed 3 has been expanded to allow for better navigation around trees, rocks and foliage. Weapons and gadgets have been expanded, and Edward can use new pieces of equipment such as blow pipes. Things like these are extremely useful in hostage situations where you need to employ stealth.

Ismail has also revealed that the series’ traditional synchronisation points now also act as fast-travel points, allowing you to instantly return to any synchronisation point that you’ve used.

The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the Limited Edition will be available on October 29, while the next-gen and PC versions will be released at a later date.
