Asia CEO Lennard Hoornik leaves HTC's payroll

HTC’s troubles don’t seem to be ending any time soon. The company, in a statement sent to CNET, has confirmed that CEO of HTC Asia, Lennard Hoornik has left the company. In the wake of other high-profile departures which include Jason Gordon, Vice President of Global Communications among others. It has also been reported that the Chief Product Officer Kouji Kodera made his exit earlier in the week.

In the statement, the company said, “HTC can confirm that Lennard Hoornik has left HTC. We appreciate his contributions to our South Asia efforts over the past year and wish him all the best. HTC’s CFO, Chialin Chang will provide interim leadership in this strategic region while we work to find a permanent solution.”

HTC is in a dangerous spot right now after launching two big products; the HTC One, their new flagship Android device, which has been put in the market in direct competition with the Samsung Galaxy S4, and the HTC First, which is the only Facebook smartphone, as it comes pre-installed with Facebook Home.

HTC’s not doing so well

As reported yesterday, CPO Kodera left the Taiwanese company last week. And in a tweet put on earlier this week, Gordon announced his departure and also put his last day at May 17. In the tweet, he said “After nearly seven years at HTC, my last day was Friday. I’ve worked with some amazing people and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished."

The high-profiled nature of the people departing is a cause of worry for the company. And the last few months have been no less turbulent, where the Global Retail Marketing Manager Rebecca Rowland, Director of Digital Marketing John Starkweather and Product Strategy Manager Eric Lin also made their exit from the company’s roll call. Lin, in a strongly worded tweet, urged other employees of the company to leave.

All this does not spell out good news for the company. If the numbers are to be crunched, it has been reported that HTC saw a net income after tax of $2.88 million for the first quarter of this year. This was in addition to around $1.45 billion in total sales, with concern being shown for the performance seen in the last quarter of the earlier year as well.

While the company, from the numbers, has not begun to lose any money yet, in fact registering a small profit in the first quarter of 2013, it stands to reason, that no company can last long without their key players and employees in place. That being said, not much is known officially, and it could be that HTC is going through a massive rehaul of employees. All this is still speculation though, and more time will be needed to get a clearer picture.
