Apple's website shows off flat new icons, free status for GarageBand

Apple’s October 22 event is around the corner, and the company has promised that it has a “lot left to cover”. With the date drawing closer, leaks and new information regarding the company’s products seem to be coming hard and fast. This time the company itself erroneously put a revised Built-in Apps page online, revealing not just the full set of new iOS 7 icons for iWork apps but also showed that the GarageBand app will become a basic free download for iOS 7 devices.

The revelation came as part of the Built-in Apps page that has now been pulled down, reports MacRumours. The footnote for GarageBand on the page said that the app will be a free basic download for iOS 7 devices alongside the iWork apps that went free with iOS 7’s launch. GarageBand, however, will still need you to purchase in-app content from Apple. You will still need to pay for certain sounds and instruments.

The report points out that it is possible that the licensing for these sounds, which is a time-consuming process, is the reason why GarageBand was not made free alongside iWork and iLife with the launch of iOS 7. The company seems to have settled for the in-app purchase method for these sounds as a way around the problem and is planning to make the app a basic download coinciding with its next event.

Along with this, Apple is also giving the iWork suite of apps a dose of iOS 7. The flat, new icons, which made an appearance in the iCloud page last week, have showed up on the page too. The App Store is yet to inculcate the change, but will probably make them before the event tomorrow. It has also been speculated that Apple will be updating the desktop versions of its iLife and iWork apps.
