Apple today announced the 128GB version of its fourth-generation iPad with Retina display to join the existing 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB versions of the popular tablet. The 128GB iPad will be available from February 5, in either black or white colours. It will be available in a Wi-Fi-only model and as a Wi-Fi + Cellular variant.  The retail price is Rs 49,900 for the Wi-Fi-only model and around Rs 56,900 for the Wi-Fi and 3G variant.

“With more than 120 million iPads sold, it’s clear that customers around the world love their iPads, and everyday they are finding more great reasons to work, learn and play on their iPads rather than their old PCs,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing. “With twice the storage capacity and an unparalleled selection of over 300,000 native iPad apps, enterprises, educators and artists have even more reasons to use iPad for all their business and personal needs.”

Apple’s iPad losing ground to the competition

Apple’s iPad now has a 128GB version

The fourth-generation iPad features a 9.7-inch Retina display that has a resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels. It is powered by an Apple-designed A6X chip and has the Lightning port connector for fast transfer and charging. On the front it has a FaceTime HD camera and will run iOS 6.1, Apple’s latest version of the operating system, which was launched this week and introduces support for additional LTE networks around the world. With iOS 6.1, iTunes Match subscribers can download individual songs to their iOS devices from iCloud.

The iPad is arguably the world’s most popular tablet. This is largely thanks to a healthy inventory of apps that are optimised for the tablet. More than 300,000 apps have been designed specifically for the slate, which also has access to more than 5,000 newspapers and magazines through the Newsstand app. Besides this, there are more than 1.5 million books available on the iBookstore.

According to a press release, the iPad continues to “have a significant impact on business with virtually all of the Fortune 500 and over 85 percent of the Global 500 currently deploying or testing iPad. Companies regularly utilising large amounts of data such as 3D CAD files, X-rays, film edits, music tracks, project blueprints, training videos and service manuals all benefit from having a greater choice of storage options for iPad.”
