Apple Watch may not achieve the targeted battery life of 4 days, as expected

Recent **report** has been suggesting Apple plans to start shipping its highly anticipated Watch to the United States by March-end, and currently it’s polishing the OS and testing the battery of the device. Now, citing people related to the matter, a new 9To5Mac report reveals that Apple has ‘specific performance targets for its Watch battery, but the actual numbers may fall short of those targets’. These sources have revealed that the company aims at 19 hours of mixed usage each day, but it may not be possible to achieve the numbers in the first generation version. The report also points out that Apple earlier wanted the Watch to offer approximately one day of usage by mixing small amount of active and large amount of passive usage. However, as of last year, the company wanted the Watch to provide 2.5 to 4 hours of active usage compared to 19 hours of combined active/passive usage, three days of pure standby time or 4 days in sleeping mode. However, the company may achieve just 2-3 days in either standby or low-power mode. Apple is reportedly also stress-testing the Apple Watch’s battery life with some pre-bundled as well as third-party applications. It is targeting 2.5 hours of “heavy” application use like processor-intensive gameplay or 3.5 hours of standard app use. For the fitness tracking capabilities, Apple targets 4 hours of usage on a single charge. In fact, to test the performance in real life, around 3,000 Watch units are now being tested under various conditions. As a time piece, it will be able to display its clock face for about three hours. “However, it’s unlikely that most people would actually keep the Apple Watch clock face turned on for even three hours straight in a single day. When the Watch screen is not in use, the display is powered off, and the clock demands much less energy,” adds the report.
