Apple Watch is the first smartwatch that matters, says Tim Cook

The highly anticipated **Apple Watch** is all set to hit store shelves next month. Though the smartwatch has received **mixed reactions** and also some flak for its outrageous price tag of $10,000, but Tim Cook believes that it’s the first smartwatch that will truly matter. In the first interview about the Apple Watch, Tim Cook tells FastCompany, “We weren’t first on the MP3 player; we weren’t first on the tablet; we weren’t first on the smartphone. But we were arguably the first modern smartphone, and we will be the first modern smartwatch—the first one that matters.” “Cook does make a good point and they have proved the naysayers wrong with the iPhone and the iPad. However the smartwatch industry is still relatively new and there are many variations out there in the market and consumers have yet to truly decide what it is that they’re really after in a wearable,” points out Ubergizmo. Citing examples like Windows and Android, he says separate teams developing different aspects of a device affects the quality. “Without collaboration, you get a Windows product. There’s a company that pumps out an operating system, another that does some hardware, and yet another that does something else. That’s what’s now happening in Android land. Put it all together and it doesn’t score high on the user experience,” Cook said. He also spoke about Steve Jobs’s impact on the company and how he plans to continue the same culture. Cook has left Jobs’ office exactly how he left it. “Steve was almost viewed from the exterior as the micromanager checking to make sure that every i was dotted, and every t was crossed, that every circuit was correct, that every color was exactly right. Cook said that Jobs made ‘a lot of decisions’ and his ‘capacity was unbelievable’. It was Jobs’ selection of people that helped further propel the culture. “Steve’s focus on the benefits of small teams has paid off for Apple. But maintaining the discipline to stay effective, fleet, and nonbureaucratic would seem to get harder and harder as Apple gets bigger and bigger,” Cook further said. Finally, he also said that everything else can change, but the values can’t change. The Apple Watch is the first new product from Apple ever since Tim Cook took the realms. Though smartwatches aren’t something new, the product category suddenly seemed like the next fad after rumours about Apple working on the ‘iWatch’ started circulating on the web. Here’s **everything you need to know** about the new Apple Watch.
