Looks like, the Apple Watch has got off to a solid start with one million pre-orders on the first day itself in the US.

According to Slice Intelligence, a firm that tracks US consumer spending through e-commerce email receipts, has revealed the said numbers based on receipts from 9,080 online shoppers. The report further adds that almost two-thirds of these pre-orders were for the aluminum Sport line starting at $349, which is the less expensive watch.

It was followed by one-third of the pre-orders for the stainless-steel Apple Watch collection starting at $549. As expected, people opting for the Edition series dipped in gold starting at $10,000 wasn't much. 71 percent of these pre-orders were received for the larger 42mm watch size.

Interestingly, 72 percent of the users who bought the smartwatch had previously ordered an Apple product in the past two years and 43 percent had also ordered the Macbook that also went on sale on April 10.

While gold is known to be the popular colour for iPhones, smartwatch users reportedly preferred space gray as it accounted for 40 percent of the pre-orders. Space gray was followed by stainless steel at 34 percent, silver aluminum at 23 percent and space black at mere 3 percent. However, in terms of the sport band, black colour was preferred by most users, representing about half of all the orders.

Well, these numbers are only for the US, and not yet confirmed by Apple. However, considering the Watch is also available for pre-order in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, the UK, and the US, we wouldn't be wrong to say the new category has been fairly accepted by Apple loyalists. However, the company is believed to have limited stock during the launch and it is not yet clear how much inventory Apple has in its stores.
