Apple wants users to 'buy more' from App Store

Though there is no exact date, the feature and new redesign is likely yo go live in the next few weeks. Earlier this year, Apple had announced to add Search Ads and incentivise subscriptions in the App Store. Search Ads are targeted advertisements that show up with a light blue background to distinguish the ad from regular App Store content.

Amid reports around how Apple wants to focus on services, Bloomberg points out the Cupertino company could be adding a new tab suggesting users to buy more in the App Store. The tab called "For You" is aimed at bringing in more revenue.

This feature ‘For You’ could add items based on what appeals to users, depending upon the purchases they've previously made. For instance, if you've bought a new MacBook or iPhone or an app, it would try to up-sell a related product.

It should be noted that music streaming and news app send recommendations. However, these are based on interests chosen by customers. "What’s not known is how deep Apple will peer into your account. We don’t know if Apple is simply looking at your purchase history, or if it also looks at what devices you’ve got linked to your Apple ID, or what software you may have purchased," points out TheNextWeb.

So, we really don't know how users would react to Apple diving into their purchase history. The new redesign would also mean a new app store that will work on both iPhone and iPad with same interface and basic features.
