Apple updates iMac family with new Retina Displays; 21.5-inch base model starts Rs 91,900 onwards

Apple has updated its iMac family of desktop computers bringing Retina 4K display on the 21.5-inch models for the first time and Retina 5K display on all the 27-inch iMac models. These iMacs will be selling at authorised Apple resellers.

Apple has updated its iMac family of desktop computers bringing Retina 4K display on the 21.5-inch models for the first time and Retina 5K display on all the 27-inch iMac models. These iMacs will be selling at authorised Apple resellers.

The 27-inch Retina 5K iMac comes in three models starting at Rs 1,48,900; Rs 1,64,900 and Rs 1,88,900 for the two Intel Core i5 processors and one Core i7 processor sporting parts respectively. The 21.5-inch Retina iMac will be available in three models starting at Rs 91,900 and Rs 1,07,900 and with a Retina 4K display starting at Rs 1,23,900.

Apart from new iMacs, Apple also introduced a new line of wireless accessories including the new Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2 priced at Rs 8,300, Rs 6,600 and Rs 11,200 respectively. The Magic Trackpad 2 features the Force Touch interface for the desktop. Also all the Magic accessories will come with rechargable batteries.

The 21.5-inch iMac with Retina Display will sport a 4096 x 2304 pixel resolution which is around 4.5 times more than the standard 21.5-inch iMac display. The 21.5-inch Retina 4K display iMac will come with either a 6th generation Intel Core i5 or a 5th gen Intel Core i7 processor with Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200. It will support for up to 16GB of RAM. The storage can be either a 1TB HDD or a 1TB/2TB Fusion drive or up to 512GB SSD.

The 27-inch Retina 5K display will come with either a 6th gen Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7 processors with support for up to 32GB of RAM. These iMacs will also come with a discrete AMD graphics solution: AMD Radeon R9 M380, R9 M390, R9 M395 or R9 M395X graphics processors. On the storage front, you get either a 1TB HDD or 1TB/2TB/3TB Fusion drive or up to 1TB SSD.

Both the 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs come with four USB 3.0 ports, two Thunderbolt 2 ports, Wi-fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0. Also all the iMacs will come with the latest OS X El Capitan operating system.

Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing said, “These are the most stunning iMacs we’ve ever made. With our gorgeous new Retina displays, more powerful processors and graphics and all-new Magic accessories, the new iMac continues to redefine the ultimate desktop experience.”
