Apple TV 4K to get Dolby Atmos surround audio format with a future update

The **Apple TV 4K** was launched earlier this month by **Apple** with the powerful A10X Fusion chip found on the iPad Pro, adding support for 4K, HDR (HDR 10 and **Dolby Vision** ) as well as 3D audio. Dolby Atmos support was missing, however, making potential buyers a little unhappy, given the $179 starting price tag of the Apple TV 4K. [caption id=“attachment_4037465” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Apple TV 4K[/caption] Apple has now confirmed in a statement to The Verge that the omission of **Dolby Atmos** from the Apple TV 4K was not due to a hardware limitation and that it would roll out soon with a future update. Apple did not put a date as to when one should expect the update to roll out but this does infer that the surround sound technology by Dolby would arrive in the future. Apple Insider in their report argues that the omission could be due to time constraints since the format is already available in a number of other devices in the US which retail for much lesser. Dolby Atmos is notably supported in the **Xbox One S** as well as streaming service Netflix. The report also mentions that hardware on the new Apple TV 4K makes it one of the few devices capable of supporting both Dolby Vision and HDR10 video formats. The Apple TV 4K will begin shipping in the US today along with 21 other countries. When it does arrive in India, it is expected to be priced at Rs 15,900 for the 32 GB variant and Rs 17,900 for the 64 GB variant.
