Apple slated to showcase two iPhones in October

Is October 4 the day when the much anticipated iPhone 5 will be launched?  According to a report by AllThingsD, sources that are close to the situation have revealed that Apple is planning a major media event to be held on the 4th of October, 2011. After information spills by the Orange France CEO and an image appearance of the iPhone 5 cases by Case-Mate, all indications are pointing to the announcement that this media event will showcase the next generation Apple iPhone.

Another bit of information revealed by the website is that this media event will be presided over by the new CEO of the tech powerhouse, Tim Cook. There is a lot of anticipation regarding this event, besides it being the day of the launch of the iPhone 5, because this would mark Cook’s first time as a main presenter for Apple. This seems like it puts a lot of pressure on the newly appointed CEO as he is expected to follow suit in the same charismatic manner as his predecessor, Steve Jobs. AllThingsD goes on to state that Cook would be assisted by Marketing Head, Phil Schiller, iOS Chief, Scott Forstall and Eddy Cue who was recently named SVP of Internet Software and Services. Though to enhance his credibility, Cook would be handling the introduction of the iPhone 5 himself.

AllThingsD states that even though they have been informed about the October 4th media event, Apple could change the date of the announcement. In addition to the media event, their tipsters have also informed them that the next iPhone could be made available within a few weeks of the announcement.

According to a related report by TNW, Apple board member and former Vice President of the US, Al Gore, at the Discovery Invest Leadership Summit has let it slip that, “the new iPhones would be out next month.” Judging by Mr. Gore’s statement, in addition to the iPhone 5, another iPhone will be launched. If rumours hold true this would be the iPhone 4S, which supposedly looks similar to the iPhone 4 but loaded with a ton of internal improvements.

Let us know your reactions about the rumoured date of the announcement of the next iPhone or iPhones in the comments below.
