We’ve so far known that Apple is working on a new 4-inch iPhone called 5se, as it toted to be an upgraded 2013 5s model. New reports now hint at a new name for the device. According to a report by 9To5Mac, the upcoming 4-inch iPhone will be called SE and not iPhone 5se. The company has decided to drop ‘5’ from the name. This means, the iPhone SE will be the first ever upgraded model without a number in its name.

Citing sources related to the matter, the report also adds that the change in name is to simplify the iPhone lineup as bringing back an iPhone 5 variant during iPhone 6 lifecycle may confuse customers. The iPhone SE will reportedly replace the iPhone 5s and could sell at a similar price point. The iPhone SE will look just like the 5s, but with slightly more curved edges. A recent report said it would feature the powerful A9 processor and always-on Siri option. The report also hints at Rose gold colour option and, 16GB and 64GB storage variants. Going by the previous reports, the Apple iPhone 5se or allegedly ‘SE’  is expected to pack in plenty of recently announced features, all except for a fingerprint reader and 3D Touch. What you can expect to get on this smaller iPhone 5s successor is a design similar to the iPhone 6 models, an 8MP camera on the back and 1.2MP front-facing camera. Talking about the camera, the sensors and the hardware will be able to deliver larger panoramas and autofocus for video recording as well. Also included in the iPhone 5se will be a barometer that will help the Health app check for changes in elevation. Other upgrades also include an NFC chip for Apple Pay and other communication options that would include Bluetooth 4.2, VoLTE, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi. Powering it all will be an Apple A8 chipset with the M8 co-processor that will also come from the currently available iPhone 6 models Meanwhile, rumours, leaks and speculations around the upcoming Apple’s Air 3 also just don’t seem to end. Another report suggests that the 9.7-inch iPad will be a part of the iPad Pro series, and not Air. This means Apple iPhone SE and 9.7-inch iPad Pro are expected to be launched on March 15 , and likely to hit stores by March 18.
