Apple may host iPhone 5 event on September 12

If you are eagerly awaiting the next iPhone and have been saving up for it, this news is of interest to you. A report by iMore states that sources have informed them the next generation iPhone will be launched on September 12, 2012, and will be available in stores 9 days later.

Numerous reports in the past about the tentative release date of the next generation iPhone claimed that it will be unveiled by October. Those reports made sense as Apple does tend to give a handset a shelf life of a year. However, if this report is accurate, then we could see the iPhone 5 a month earlier than expected.

There have also been reports claiming that the iPhone 5 could be launched on August 7. However, that would reduce the shelf life of the current generation iPhone to 10 months, and that would be very unlike Apple.

A report by AllThingsD has also backed these latest rumours by claiming that the iPhone 5 would be unveiled by early September. It states that the brand is in the process of stocking up components for a launch that is scheduled to take place in the same time frame. As per the report, the author John Paczkowski states, “Sources tell AllThingsD that Apple is currently planning an event for the week of September 9th, with Wednesday being the date on which it will likely be held. And while we haven’t yet confirmed the event’s focus, history suggests it will indeed be the new iPhone.”

A later report by The Verge has also backed these claims of a September 12 release date and has said, “The rumor cycle this time around for the next iPhone has been a bit unusual — multiple leaks have all depicted the exact same components — but it looks like we’ll be seeing what Apple has up its sleeves come Wednesday, September 12th. Our own sources familiar with the matter have confirmed that date, and multiple websites have similar reports as well.”

In such a short span of time various websites have indicated that the launch date will be the 12th of September so there is a high possibility that this could be accurate.

Two rumours of the iPhone 5 seem to be consistent for quite a while now. One is that the iPhone 5 will have a redesigned casing with a larger display, and the other is that it will feature a micro dock. The next iPhone is expected to feature a major design overhaul and it is said to be much bigger, measuring 58.47 mm wide, 123.83 mm high and 7.6 mm thin with a 4-inch display. As previous reports have indicated, the headphone jack will also be relocated from the top of the iPhone to its bottom. Earlier reports also indicated that the size of the dock has been reduced drastically, and it is now the size of a micro USB. The screen size of the iPhone has remained the same, since it was first launched. Apple is expected to increase the size of the display to 4-inches diagonally. While the width will not change, the brand will raise the height, thereby giving it an resolution of 1136 x 640.

So come September, we could expect to see the next generation iPhone being launched in all its glory.
