Apple launches status page for Developer Center as it starts restoring services

Following an attempted break-in within its developer website, Apple has launched a status page to let users know what services it is currently working on. The status page has gone online even as the company is completely overhauling the Developer Center website.

The iCloud-like system status page shows services that have been put online by Apple in green while the others are greyed out. Apple has also addressed developers about how it intends to go about restoring these features. The Cupertino company has said that it will first start out with Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles, Apple Developer Forums, Bug Reporter, pre-release developer libraries, and videos first.

Following this, Apple will concentrate on restoring software downloads, in order to make the latest betas of iOS 7, XCode 5 and OS X Mavericks available to programme members once again. “We apologise for the significant inconvenience caused by our developer website downtime. We’ve been working around the clock to overhaul our developer systems, update our server software, and rebuild our entire database,” the company said.

Apple had admitted on Sunday that exactly a week ago on July 18 that its Developer Center website had been hacked into. While sensitive information of registered developers was encrypted and could not be accessed, Apple said that it had not been able to rule out the possibility that names, mailing addresses and email addresses of some developers could have been accessed. The company said that it had taken the entire site down even as it tried to overhaul security on it.

At the time of publishing, iTunes Connect and the very important Bug Reporter had been made online by Apple. The company has also assured developers in an email again that if their program membership is set to expire during the downtime period, it will automatically be extended and their apps will remain on the App Store.
