Japanese blog Mac Okatara has reported that Apple could be working on a new 5-inch iPhone model that will feature a new vertical dual-camera system. This new size will be placed between the 4.7- and 5.5-inch 2017 models and be offered as a ‘medium’ offering.
The report also says that the new iPhone lineup will be dubbed the iPhone 7s and not the iPhone 8. Which means that they would be an updated version of the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. How the new 5-inch model will be named is still a mystery.
The same publication had earlier reported that the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus will feature the same aluminium build and design as the iPhone 7 series. It also said that Apple could introduce a brand new red colour option as well. Various other reports have also said that the new iPhones in 2017, or at least one of the variants, will ditch the LCD display panels for a premium OLED display and glass casing.
Mac Okatara has a good track record and is reliable when it comes to rumours around the iPhone. It was one the first to report that Apple would replace the headphone jack in the iPhone 7 and debut a new gloss black colour. However, it recently reported the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus would get a new ‘Jet White’ colour which hasn’t yet materialised. So its better you take the 5-inch iPhone report with a pinch of salt.
