Apple iPhone 7 is easier to repair than Google Pixel XL: iFixit teardown

iFixit got its hands on the Google Pixel XL, and needless to say, the device was ripped apart to find out what’s inside. For starters, it scores a 6 out of 10 on repairability score, which makes it slightly more difficult to repair than the Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus that score  7 out of 10 each. On the other hand, the scores put it way ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Nexus 6P that have scored 3 and 2 in the past, respectively.

iFixit teardown reveals that the manufacturer (HTC in this case) uses a modular approach, which means most of the components are easily replaceable. The list of these easily removable components include the battery and camera modules. The battery that has a removal tab, and is put in place with a modest amount of adhesive, making the removal painless. Another highlight is all screws are T5 Torx. On the flip side, the report mentions that opening procedure required prying up a thin, poorly-supported display assembly makes it difficult to open the phone without any damage. Besides the screws, the midframe is secured by press-fit notches, which makes the removal and subsequent repairs tedious. The Pixel and Pixel XL recently went on sale in India. The Pixel pricing starts from Rs 57,000 for the 32GB base model and goes all the way up to Rs 76,000 for the 128GB Pixel XL. We had got our hands on the 32GB Pixel XL priced at Rs 67,000.
