Apple’s new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus devices will launch in India on 7 October . Weeks ahead of the launch, Apple is slashing prices of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus by Rs 22,000. This might comes as good news for most Indians, but considering that the devices are already overpriced in India, the price cuts still place the cost of these older iPhones higher than their launch price in the US in 2015. Here are the prices for reference:
US Price (Rs) | Indian launch price (Rs) | Indian price after discount (Rs) | |
---|---|---|---|
iPhone SE 64GB | 33,500 | 49,000 | 44,000 |
iPhone 6s 128GB | 57,000 | 82,000 | 60,000 |
iPhone 6s Plus 128GB | 65,000 | 92,000 | 70,000 |
iPhone 7 32GB | 44,000 | 60,000 | NA |
iPhone 7 Plus 32GB | 50,300 | NA | NA |
At Apple’s September 2016 keynote on 7 September, Apple not only announced the brand new iPhone 7, but also updates to the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus models, all of which receive a bump in onboard storage. Instead of the earlier options of 16/64/128 GB of storage, the updated models are to offer 32/64/128 GB of storage. The price cuts affect existing stock and it’s not clear if the refreshed models will also benefit from the same cut and if so, to what extent. As it stands, the 128GB iPhone 6s will sell for the same price as the 32GB iPhone 7 in India. With the iPhone 7, you’re losing out on the headphone jack and storage capacity, but gain a much faster processor, brighter display and a much improved camera system. Is the trade-off worth it? That’s for you to decide. Of course, you can always opt for an Android device.
