Apple iPhone 6 'explodes' in middle of call in Gurgaon: Report

A 30-year-old businessman had a narrow escape when his mobile phone exploded while he was using it, police said on Tuesday. Restaurant owner Kishan Yadav’s phone exploded after there was sparking in it. Yadav is a resident of Wazirabad here near sector 52. “I was sitting in my car and was speaking to my friend on Monday night. I quickly threw the phone outside my car after sparking in it. The phone burst the next moment,” Yadav said. “My thumb suffered burn injury…,” he said. Police have registered a case against unknown person for causing financial loss. According to a report by The Times of India , this is the first such case regarded in India since the launch of the Apple iPhone 6 here. The report also points out that an Apple representative has said that the company was looking into the Gurgaon incident and it has not previously received any such complaint about the iPhone 6 in India. This isn’t the first time that we’ve come across an instance of an explosion involving a smartphone. In July 2013, an 18-year-old Fanny Schlatter from Switzerland suffered third-degree burns to her thigh when her Samsung Galaxy S3 exploded in her pant pocket. Schlatter, an apprentice painter, was in her office when the phone kept in her pocket exploded, forcing her to tear the piece of clothing off to prevent any further damage. By then, her right thigh had received third-degree burns. The phone, she says, was not more than a few weeks old and the batteries she was using were original. With inputs from IANS
